About Me
Born in Martock Somerset into a creative family, father stone carver, mother an artist. Always in the workshop and pinching Dad’s tools to “carve” stone… sometimes even with a
screwdriver!
When I was growing up I would spend a lot of time whittling spoons with a pocket knife, building campfires, making treehouses and pushing homemade go-carts down hills.

Aged 21 with no formal training or drawing skills just a vision in my head, I completed the build of a shepherds hut. As a personal project, this was done outside of working hours, in my spare time during evenings and weekends. I even ended up living in the sheperds hut for 18 months! I’ve since gone on to build a second shepherd hut which I use as a bar for private events.

Coming back from Australia in 2020 due to COVID-19, I’ve been self-employed, doing primarily carpentry work, as well as assisting Arthur Lynch, a green oak timber framer. I also worked for environmentalist and sustainability expert, Julia Hailes, on her welding project. I carried out a wide variety of tasks and took over the project management. This included creating an egg-shaped door for the chicken run, building a wavy pontoon, creating a marsh-land wooden track (Sweet track), designing and making a state-of-the-art insect house.
“Bertie is a real find. I have no hesitation in recommending him for outside woodwork. He is creative, resourceful, reliable, efficient, and extremely practical, as well as being a joy to have around.”
